Side-stepping the heavyweights
Date:23/03
Source:icons.com Giggs's official website

I thought we were well worth our 3-0 victory in Portugal against Boavista on Tuesday night and no-one should underestimate the significance of us finishing as group leaders and therefore avoiding the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona in Friday's quarter-final draw.

We don't fear anyone left in the competition but we've learnt over the seasons in the Champions League that it does your chances no harm side-stepping the heavyweights until absolutely necessary. Of course, anyone who wants to win the win the competition is going to have to beat some of the big guns at some stage but the later you can leave it, the better.

Tuesday night was a great performance. We may have been without Ruud van Nistelrooy, Roy Keane and Juan Veron but it shows the way the whole squad has found its form recently that it makes no difference at all. I thought we played some really good stuff on the night and that can only bode well for the knockout stages.
